Networks

A network is a named group of devices and gateways that belong together, like the equipment in one building or a logical cluster. Networks give a workspace a quick way to filter the fleet and to roll equipment up for reporting.

Networks are created and managed by your customers inside their own workspace, so the full how-to, creating networks, adding and removing members, and filtering by network, lives in the end-user guide: Networks. Everything there works the same for you when you act as a sub-account. This page covers the parts that are yours: turning the feature on, and working across sub-accounts.

Networks is a sub-account feature you must enable

Networks are off by default. They are a sub-account feature, so a customer cannot see or use Networks until you switch them on for that sub-account's tier. Nothing appears in their workspace until you do. See Turning networks on below.

note

Where to find it: Sidebar -> Operations -> Networks, while acting as one of your sub-accounts. Networks are sub-account-scoped.

Turning networks on

Networks are off by default. Enable them per sub-account tier with the Networks feature, under Settings -> Sub-account Tiers (see Sub-accounts -> Setting up sub-account tiers). A sub-account only sees the Networks module once its tier has them switched on, and a partner-tier ceiling caps what a sub-account tier can enable.

Turning networks off (tier changes)

Moving a sub-account to a tier without Networks hides the feature for that account; it never deletes anything. The account's networks and the group memberships on its devices and gateways are kept, invisible, and come back exactly as they were if you later assign a tier that includes Networks again. When you change a tier and the account is actively using a feature the new tier lacks, the tier selector shows a notice with what will be hidden.

While an account's tier has Networks off you can still tidy up if you want to: removing devices or gateways from a network and deleting a network both work regardless of the account's tier. Only creating networks and adding members requires the feature to be on. The same hide-not-delete rule applies to sites and the Multi-site feature.

Working across sub-accounts

As a Partner Admin you can see and manage networks for any sub-account on your partner; when you create a network you choose which sub-account it belongs to. Every network, and the equipment in it, stays within a single sub-account. If a device or gateway leaves its sub-account, it is removed from its network automatically. When the multi-site feature is also on, a network can belong to a site and its equipment inherits that site.

In the API

Networks are a read-only resource in the public API, and you can filter the device and gateway lists by network. See API endpoints -> Networks.
