Billing
The Billing tab is where the account owner views the current subscription and manages payment. It sits next to Subscription in Account settings, and shows the money side of your account: your plan, its status, and a link to manage payment securely.
Where to find it: Sidebar -> Account settings -> Billing.
Only the account owner sees this tab. Other members continue to manage devices, dashboards, and the rest of the workspace, but billing stays with the owner.
What you see
- Plan: the name of your current plan.
- Status: where your subscription stands (for example active, trialing, or past due).
- Renewal: when a subscription is active, the next renewal date and the recurring price.
If billing has not been set up for your account yet, the tab simply says so and there is nothing to manage.
Starting a subscription
If your account does not have a subscription yet, the Billing tab shows a Choose a plan card listing the available plans with their prices. Pick one and select Subscribe. You are taken to Stripe's secure checkout to enter your card and confirm. When payment goes through, you land back on the Billing tab and your plan, status, and renewal date appear.
You can also choose between monthly and annual pricing where both are offered. To change plans later, use Manage subscription (below).
Activating a new account
When an account is created for you and is waiting on payment, the first time you sign in you see an Activate your subscription screen instead of the usual workspace. Choose a plan and complete checkout to activate. The rest of the app unlocks the moment your payment goes through, and your next sign-in goes straight to your dashboards.
Some plans include a free trial, shown on the plan as a tag. When you start a trial your card is collected up front but not charged. You have full access during the trial, and the card is charged automatically when the trial ends unless you cancel first.
Managing your subscription
The Manage subscription button opens the secure Stripe customer portal, where you can:
- Update your payment card.
- View and download invoices and receipts.
- Cancel your subscription.
Payment is handled entirely by Stripe. ioX never sees or stores your card details.
Changing your plan
Select Change plan on the Billing tab to move to a different plan. You see exactly what happens before you confirm:
- Upgrading takes effect straight away. You are charged a prorated amount for the rest of the current billing period, and your higher limits are available immediately.
- Downgrading takes effect at your next renewal, not straight away, so you keep your current plan for the rest of the period you have already paid for. There is no refund for the change.
Because a plan's device limit can never drop below the devices you are actually using, a downgrade to a smaller plan is only allowed if you are within the new plan's device limit. If you have more devices than the smaller plan allows, remove some first, or the change cannot be scheduled. While a downgrade is scheduled, the Billing tab shows the plan it changes to and when. You can cancel it any time before renewal. Plan changes are available on an active paid plan.
Canceling your subscription
You can cancel at any time from Manage subscription. When you cancel, your subscription is set to end at the end of the period you have already paid for, not straight away. Until that date you keep full access, and a banner on the Billing tab shows the date it ends. You can resume the subscription from the same place any time before then.
There is no refund for the remaining part of a period you have already paid for.
When the period ends the account is suspended: members can no longer sign in, but your data is kept so you can pick up where you left off if you resubscribe. Canceling on its own never deletes your account or data.
Requesting an account closure (from the Close account tab) also cancels your subscription at the end of the current billing period, so you stop being billed without having to cancel separately. If you withdraw the closure request before then, your subscription stays active.
Your data is retained for a win-back period of about 60 days after the account is suspended. Resubscribe within that window and everything is restored as it was. After the window passes, the account's stored data is removed to free up storage, and coming back later starts a fresh account.
If a payment fails
If a renewal payment does not go through, your account moves to a past due state and a banner asks you to update your card. Stripe retries the payment automatically over the following days. Update your card from Manage subscription to clear it. If every retry fails, the subscription ends and the account is suspended in the same way as a cancellation.
Device seats
Your plan includes a set number of devices. The Device seats card on the Billing tab shows what is included, how many extra seats you have purchased, and how many devices you are using.
When you need more capacity, select Add seats, choose how many to add, and confirm. You see the prorated amount before you pay, and you are charged immediately for the rest of the current billing period. The extra seats are available right away, and your recurring total updates from the next renewal. If your plan already includes unlimited devices, there is nothing to add.
If you try to assign a device and you are at your limit, the account owner can raise the limit from here.
Adding or reducing seats is only available on an active paid plan. During a free trial, or while your subscription is set to cancel, seat changes are paused until you are on an active subscription.
Reducing seats
If you no longer need the extra capacity, select Reduce seats and choose the new number of purchased seats. A reduction takes effect at your next renewal, not straight away, so you keep your current capacity for the rest of the billing period you have already paid for. There is no refund or credit for the reduced seats.
Because a device cap can never drop below the devices you are actually using, you must be under the new limit by the time your plan renews. If you still have more devices than the reduced plan would allow when renewal comes around, the reduction is held, your seats stay unchanged, and you are notified by email so you can remove some devices and try again.
While a reduction is scheduled, the card shows the new seat count and the renewal it applies at. Select Cancel at any time before renewal to keep your current seats. Adding seats also cancels a scheduled reduction.
Billing compared with Subscription
These are two different tabs with two different jobs:
- Subscription shows what your plan includes: your quotas and the features that are switched on.
- Billing shows the money: your plan, its status, and the link to manage payment.
To see or change what your plan includes, use the Subscription tab. To update a card, get an invoice, or change plans, use Billing.
